The La Roma neighborhood in Mexico D.F. has some of the most chic and eclectic restaurants and galleries in the city. Hidden in tiny alcoves and basements of hundred year old houses, culturally sophisticated young people converse over cocktails while discussing which enigmatic art collective has a the new expo.


This month, the boutique restaurant and gallery La Levadura is hosting FOTOSEPTIEMBRE, a photographic project sponsored by Centro de la Imagen. CI is an off-shoot of the National Center for the Arts and the largest government sponsored venture in the Americas dedicated to the investigation and proliferation of photography.

The Levadura Gallery is located on Tonola 23 in the colonia La Roma, between Avenida Insurgentes and Durango. Take the Metrobus to the Durango stop and walk east into La Roma. Turn left on the first street, past the hostel. Levadura is open from 12pm till 12 midnight and serves gourmet Mediterranean and Mexican fusion cuisine. The bar offers top-notch drink specialties and excellent pizzas.
